Made It!

 03-09-2022

Up early enough to wash my hair while we are still in a well-heated hotel! Ammar takes down our two little bags and meets me for breakfast. Then he goes to have a quick espresso and I go back up for one last scan of the room and to check out.

Geno is right on time and he takes us outside to meet his friend who has a ten-seater Mercedes van.  He'll take us to Tbilisi and we can really spread out! We drop Geno off at his car and we're on our way.  It will be about a five and a half hour trip and the weather is yucky! (Technical meteorological term!)

There's just only so much you can do from a speeding car with filthy windows!
But you get the idea.  There are mountains everywhere!

A little artsy fartsy!!

Ammar sits in the front passenger seat so that he doesn't get car sick and I spread out in one of the back seats with a book.  When we get to the mountains Ammar gets my attention and I sit glued to the passing majesty for quite a while.  There is a bathroom/coffee stop and later we stop again but we don't know why.  I don't care - IT'S SNOWING!!! I would have begged to stop anyway!

coffee stop - that's our blue chariot

basically a wide spot in the road, but with several coffee-type shops!

check out the tables!

there's new road construction going on

and the apology is in English, too

It turns out that Geno's friend has stopped to buy us treats!  They are some kind of sweet katchapuri and they are delicious and enormous!

When we get into Tbilisi, Ammar is able to direct our driver right to our hotel.  I know the address but I couldn't have directed us there in a million years without wifi!

We ring the bell at the British House and Ana's face lights up when she sees us! "Welcome back!" We get our old room back and our big suitcases are already there waiting for us! It's good to be off the road and we take some time to unwind and unpack a little.  We'll go out for dinner later;  but right now we're still full of katchapuri!

We've been craving the shrimp and mushroom soup at the Iveria Casino;  it's delicious and the price is hard to beat!  We borrow an umbrella from Alex at the hotel and walk over.  It's not a long walk and it feels good after sitting all day! Apparently you can play on credit which means you get all the benefits, like espresso, cappuccino, water, beer, DINNER, without putting any money in the machine.  The drawback is that you have to score a zillion points before you get any cash.  (I think Ammar still had points from when we were here before.) I'm okay with that!!  We play and eat and drink and then catch a cab home because it is still raining!
